Promoting Your Blog ……. No comment

How can you get into promoting your blog with no comment? Well —a — you can’t…..very well. And that is the point. I am going to comment on quite a few comments about comments : ) in this article about comments and hopefully get a few comments about the comments that I commented about. Oh there I go again! ….darn’ ….. Let’s delve into it Promoting your blog tips for comments….made for you and from you.

The smart guy’s figure that about 1 out of 10 of us comment on blogs. That can be quite a few when you think about it. The more exchanges and relationships you build the more sharing of your blog will happen. That could help in how to get more money So here we go. I will cover two areas Increasing comments on your blog and Leaving comments on other blogs.

Promoting Your Blog …. Increasing Comments on your blog

There are always the obvious things like writing compelling content that people want to read. You could always miss spell sum words too get them English spell”n police out to to correct u but I think you expect a little more than that.

Make sure that people can find where to comment. This isn’t something to hide….. If you plan on “promoting your blog”. …. that’s for sure.

Promoting your blog ………………… can they find it?

Another idea is to make a little controversy like…..parade how George Bush should be President for 4 more years…..you should always butter the bottom side of your toast……the toilet paper roll should always be mounted with the leading edge…..you get the idea. And here I thought we were having a discussion about promoting your blog! We are. So next.

Ask your readers to comment about your topic. Ask for their opinions, advice, what they prefer, their methods any tip they may have, or even questions they have. Put ideas out there to inspire interaction.

Promoting Your Blog…..Without Covers

You can always leave out a few things. Don’t cover every thing on the topic leave room for discussion. For some of us that is easy.

Reply to those that comment on your blog be conversational. That will encourage those that comment and let them know that you value them. We all need kudos. Try to make it personal…. like you really read their comment. Who knows they might start promoting your blog for you. : )

I have seen the CommentLuv Plugin around and thought it would be good to install on my site. it seems to be easy to use and give a link to your last post automatically. I like that. So I’m thinking others would to. Have any of you had it on your sites? What are your thoughts?

Some people have a widget installed in their side bar that promotes their “top commentor’s”. Seems like a nice idea. I would love to hear any pluses, negatives, tips…. what ever.

Commenting on other peoples blogs can encourage them to comment on yours. Spread the Love and it will return. I wonder if there are any good commenting tribes or groups that help each other with comments on each others blogs?

I am going to get into commenting on others blogs next in this series of Promoting Your Blog. Getting comments on your blog is a wonderful way to get to know your readers. At the same time it helps in being more authoritative in Googles eyes. And works “promoting your blog”.

All my Best,

Stephen Peters

  • Hey Stephen,
This is exactly what i was thinking of, commenting or no-commenting. I agree with your idea coz even sometimes i was thinking is it worth spending time reading others wite-up and commenting. Frankly there are no short cuts to socializing and u need to know others so that you can be known well. "Commenting" is a nice topic to talk about. Anyways great post. Keep writing.
    Bye

    • Hi Sameer,
You got it! Commenting is all about building relationships. Kind of hard to build a relationship if your not listening or hearing what the other is saying. Thanks for the complements. -Stephen

  • On my blog, I have comments turned on on my blog, but I do understand, and agree with the reason some bloggers like John Gruber on daringfireball.com, or Marco Arment on Marco.org, turn comments off. They argue that the thing most commenters are looking fore is an audience, in which case they should start their own blog. If they want to give feedback, they should e-mail, tweet to or send a message in another way, giving the blogger the chance to decide wether he finds the content of the comment interesting enough to add to his blog. I've frequently seen inter-blogger communications, where 1 blogger would write a blog post as a response to another blogger's post, with a link to it, and getting pretty long and interesting conversations out of that.

I have to admit that people like John and Marco are in a luxury position, because they already have the audience, and are quite public figures already. Although visitors shouldn't see comments as a right they must have, put as a piece of blog real estate they are granted by the blog owner, sometimes, the blog owner has no choice, if he wants to increase the popularity of his blog.

    • Hi Frederik,

I like your thoughts! Yeah the big boys or anyone for that matter may have differing ways that they chose to market them selves and spend their time. There certainly isn't only one way to do things. The main key is to build relationships so people get to know you.

Comments are a very good way to get to know your reader.... get feed back..... learn what is important to them. The more popular a blog becomes I can see where comments could become difficult to keep up with for one person.

Thanks for the visit and you very insightful comment. Come back and comment often.

      My Best,
      ~Stephen

  • I like CommentLuv too. It's an excellent way to promote both blogs.
However, one thing to consider when it comes to dofollow. The dofollow only applies to the commenter's article link, not the comment author link. You need to add something like the DoFollow plugin, which I am considering for my coffee and tea website. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@Adrienne, this is something I wish I knew 10 years ago...

  • Thanks for bringing the " dofollow / nofollow" up. Something to keep in mind and check and see if it really makes any difference if there are two types of links if there are. I havn't checked on that. :)

I agree Adrienne is great! She writes in such an easy to understand style.

  • You know that Stephen! Yea you know! You're so right. Commenting and replying to each other shows your attitude and friendliness in how go about your business.

Controversy will be a great promoter for you. Touching that was one of your points in this article. I wrote about commenting in my article which is about commenting as well! Should see it!

    Excellent article, Stephen! :)

oh BTW, commentluv is really great.

  • Hi Stephen, loads of comments arrive every day to my blog posts, however many of them are duplicates,{spam} so I spend time deleting these, taking up my time when I could be seeking out the more insightful comments, but I do feel that replying to those who have taken the time to comment on your post is nothing more than being courteous, and of course a good way to build relationships.

    • Hi Kenneth,

Thank you for your insightful comment. You're right on. that is the real aim .... to build relationships.

I hear you on spending to much time on spam. I have spent less time on spam sense recently installing G.A.S.P. plug in. It is part of the CommentLuv premium package or can be installed separately. I like it better that Akismet less spam and no valid comments dumped in the spam folder. Thank you for commenting here, come back and comment often.

      My Best,

      Stephen

  • Thanks Adrienne,
CommentLuv is great. I am glad that it works out well for you. You may be right about the dofollow links. I would have to check on that. Have a great weekend. ~Stephen

  • I just started my blog, i have about 7 articles. I am wondering how many articles, how much content should I have before I really start promoting it? I am afraid if I put too much effort into it now it will be for nothing because i do not have enough content there to keep people coming back.
